Family Law

Vermont family law is dynamic and broad, and provides the opportunity for families to decide what works best for them as they move into their new lives post separation and divorce.  Most divorce practice is moving away from contentious, protracted battles towards agreements, whenever possible.

And I will be the first to acknowledge that it is not always possible.  Some disputes are not easily or quickly reconciled and need a judge to decide what is best, especially when the issues involve children. Over the course of my 30 years in family courtrooms, I’ve watched our perceptions of what is good for families and children evolve in ways that serve our families better than what we had in 1990 when the family court system was brand new in this state.  Even as the law has broadened its scope, however, we still have families who have legitimate disputes and they need the court’s intervention so they can move on with their lives.

Our office is dedicated to finding the least contentious resolution to your family law issues, whether the dispute involves your children, your property or your support needs, and we will work hard to find a solution outside the courtroom that works for your family.  In the event that we can’t get to that resolution, we will ably represent you in the courtroom and work to achieve your objectives.

The issues in divorce, parentage and separation cases go to the core of who we are.  We promise to stand by you as you navigate these difficult issues and work to achieve your objectives.
